Thank you for making it possible for me to be here on the field. What a year it has been! I am exceedingly grateful for each penny of your support. Through your support, I was able to help 14 students learn English, strengthen academic weaknesses, grow in confidence through therapy, and grapple with academic and social anxiety. Outside of school, I taught a Biblical theology college course, and assisted with two English club outreach groups.
With just 13 days left of school, it is time to look ahead to when I will be back stateside and the budgetary needs for the coming year. Due to school needs during the summer, I will be back in the states for about 28 days.
It is important to me to meet as many of you as I can while I am home, in order to personally update you over a cup of coffee or a shared meal. (Plus, we haven’t seen each other in a year!) Game nights and gatherings are already being planned, so don’t miss out.
If you would be willing to host me for dinner or coffee with your family and friends or for your Bible study, Sunday School, Life Group, I would love to share about God’s work in Ukraine.
These are the places you can expect to see me:
- Chicago & Rock Falls, IL, from May 30-June 8
- Kansas City, MO, from June 9-June 19
- Denver & Colorado Springs, CO, from June 20-June 27
Your support has fully supplied the needs of the 2017-2018 year. Thank you.
Looking at the 2018-2019 year, a number of changes will take place which necessitate the sharp increase in budget that you will see on my support page.
Providentially, my first year has clarified my needs here, which has resulted in a good deal of decrease on many budgetary items. The first year also emboldened the drive to finish out my seminary degree, which will add about approximately $8,000 annually for a few years. (Barring any scholarship assistance)
This summer I will take the last leg of certification for NILD Educational Therapy. Once I complete this third level, I will be a Professionally Certified Educational Therapist (PCET). In order to complete that last leg though, there is conference and training costs, as well as travel and residency costs, since the closest center to complete the training is in Budapest, Hungary.
Finally, if you are part of my email list, you will know that KCA is anticipating a new building this year. The new building sits just outside the main city to the south-west, while my current apartment is on the northeastern side of Kyiv. As you can see in the picture, if I left at 6:30 in the morning, it would take me 90 minutes on two metro lines and a bus to get to school…one way. As I have looked at apartments close to school, there are two conclusions: 1) I will downsize 1-2 rooms**, 2) My rent will increase $100-200.
That is my need. I lay it before you and ask you to pray about the fund-raising this summer. The Lord provided all I needed, and I trust He will do it again.
Leaning on God’s provision,
**Rooms are counted different on this side of the world. My current 2 bedroom apartment, is actually considered a 3 room; the living room is counted. As such, a one bedroom is acutally a large kitchen and a detached room.
